Has anyone ever used epoxy or rubberized pool paint over older plaster, and if so, how well did it work?

I have a plaster pool, circa 1973, that has never been resurfaced. The plaster is coming off in spots, but I can't afford a replaster or pebble finish at this time (baby on the way). I've seen epoxy pool paint and rubberized pool paint on the market, but have gotten mixed reviews about them. Does any pool paint really work? If so, what is best for my pool?
