If someone kills your dog on purpose should you be able to kill them?

I was thinking about this today with all the tainted pet food going around. All I know is that if someone hurt my dog intentionally or killed him with malicious intent, they would be a goner! For sure. To me, my pet is a member of my family and if you harm my family you are going to pay. Anyone else feel the same?
